Ultra-low-cost electric vehicle maker BYD is continuing to lobby, this time in Ontario, to prepare for its expansion into the Canadian passenger-vehicle market, even after Finance Canada introduced a 100 per cent tariff on its products. The parent company of online dating apps Tinder, Hinge and OKCupid wants to discuss federal online regulation laws, including how to verify the age of users. And with food bank use up 90 per cent in 2024 compared to pre-pandemic numbers, Food Banks Canada is asking the federal government to pass a groceries and essentials tax benefit for low-income households.
Those are just some of the insights from the IJF’s roundup of lobbying registrations at the federal level and in every province across Canada. Each week, the IJF publishes data from our four lobbying databases showing who wants laws changed and who is asking for government money. Think of it as your weekly dose of public policy news before it becomes news.
