About the Investigative Journalism Foundation
The IJF is an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces fearless public interest journalism. Our reporting covers the intersection of money and power in public life: where government money comes from and how it gets spent, who wields influence in the halls of power, and who's violating the public trust.
We also turn the raw data behind our stories into accessible databases that anyone can use. There are more stories in these numbers than any one newsroom could ever tell, and so we invite Canadians and journalists at other outlets to dig in and follow the money for themselves. This data belongs to all Canadians, and we make sure they can actually use it.
Our work is fuelled by our love for Canada, and for Canada's most valuable resource: our shared democracy. As we look around the world, it's becoming increasingly clear that it takes hard work to hold onto democracy. The IJF is a key part of the infrastructure that protects Canadian democracy from threats like misinformation, accountability failures and declining trust. We believe that by telling Canadians the truth about money and power in Canada, and by giving them the tools to see for themselves how these systems work, we can build a more accountable and more transparent Canada, and a more durable democracy for us all.
