The B.C. government, the federal NDP and Canada’s largest labour organization are urging Ottawa to beef up inspections of employers who hire temporary foreign workers, after an IJF investigation revealed inspectors seldom visit the worksites they review.

The IJF revealed 77 per cent of the more than 12,000 worksite inspections completed since 2020 were strictly “paper-based.” That means inspectors never visited worksites where they are responsible for preventing fraud and abuse of vulnerable workers.
