A Vancouver woman recently fined more than $600,000 for a fraud targeting the city’s Christian community is already facing new allegations of misleading people who were trying to make a difference in the Downtown Eastside, the IJF has learned.
From 2016 to 2019, investors lost about $776,000 to Cherie Evangeline White and her company’s house-flipping project, according to the B.C. Securities Commission (BCSC). She earned investors’ trust by “projecting shared spiritual values” and promoting her family’s connection to the Salvation Army Church, BCSC commissioners wrote in an April 12 penalty decision.
