On Monday, Albertans will vote in the first round of municipal elections since the United Conservative government’s new campaign financing rules were introduced. Several wealthy Edmontonians have taken advantage of the reintroduction of corporate donations to boost their contributions to local council candidates, according to an analysis of campaign funding sources.

In a municipal general election, individuals can donate up to $5,000 per calendar year to all candidates during the campaign. Corporations, unions and associations can contribute a maximum of $5,000 per campaign period.
