Meet the IJF: Web Developer Daniel Nass
Nass will build new databases and improve existing ones
Roberto is a journalist who specializes in data analysis to do investigations. A self-taught coder, Roberto uses computational methods for web scraping, network analysis, geospatial analysis, natural language processing on large text documents, and data visualization.
Before joining IJF, he was a data journalist at CBC News for five years, and a reporter at the Montreal Gazette before that. He briefly taught journalism at the University of Ottawa. His past investigations spanned issues like road safety, hospital backlogs, campaign finance, pollution and disinformation. He has won numerous journalism awards, like the 2021 CAJ award for written news about an international online scam operation run out of Montreal. He’s a regular judge at the Sigma Awards, an international prize for data journalism.
Roberto is originally from Brazil and lived in the U.S. and Hungary before coming to Canada as a student at McGill University in Montreal. He’s an enthusiast of coffee, cocktails, pizzamaking, live music, and acroyoga.
